They say that if all the bees disappear, humanity will go extinct along with them.

And in the 2025 film Bugonia, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, the aliens don’t spend much time thinking about it and come up with a better solution.

Bugonia, or “born from an ox,” is an ancient belief that originated in Greece and spread among the Romans and other peoples, according to which it would be possible to generate bees spontaneously from the carcass of a decomposing ox.

Plot twist: it’s not possible, and if we want more bees, we’ll have to respect the planet more and, since we know that won’t happen, they’ll go away.

So all I had left was not to waste time thinking about it and to combine the sinister Extinction by ARtroniks with the film’s darkly funny final decision, plus A/T/O/S and Marlene Dietrich, Space Invaders ships, and bees being born; and I called it Extinction, because calling it Carcass wouldn’t sound very good.
