Transfiguration - Directed and performing by Olivier de Sagazan
--
In the work Transfiguration by French artist Olivier de Sagazan, he chooses to abandon himself and become a terrifying creature.
In just one hour he deforms, transfigures, twists, contorts, and then twists again using paint, dust, water, clay, branches and metal plates as he transforms from an ordinary man into grotesque hybrid beings, questioning the world and the boundaries between human and animal, body and matter, the loss of ego and existence itself.
And watching him is incredibly entertaining.
Steve Digital has also entertained me a lot, and when he wants to, he can definitely be frightening. The great charm of Jungle and Drum and Bass lies in that ability to confuse and surprise: to see everyone deform, transfigure, twist, contort, and twist again; to make us laugh at many moments and be startled at others.
The best example of that might be the track The Assassinator, so I transfigured it with a fragment of Olivier de Sagazan’s performance, and the result is still called The Assassinator.
