The song Seven Nation Army by the duo White Stripes is an epic song without really being epic — even though the name and the riff are super epic, the lyrics are basically just about someone leaving town after hearing people gossiping about them.
And when it comes to gossip, the Greeks knew what they were doing — honestly, half of Greek mythology wouldn’t even exist if they knew how to keep their mouths shut.
But what’s truly epic is the still funny and mind-blowing battle against the seven skeletons at the end of the 1963 movie Jason and the Argonauts — the sons of the Hydra’s teeth rising from the ground, controlled by Aeetes, directed by Don Chaffey, and brought to life by the forever genius Ray Harryhausen.
Fighting an army that’s already dead is terrifying, even if they’re all a bunch of skinny-legged dudes.
So I couldn’t resist the pun and called it Seven Ankle Army.
