Your girlfriend who wasn’t hungry but now steals your fries, your friend who came over “just to say hi” and then opens your fridge, your coworker who drinks from other people’s glasses at happy hour, two countries separated by an ocean fighting over some rare mineral buried deep in the lands of a third country separated by yet another ocean — life on Earth is an eternal turf war.
Even when everyone stays in their own lane, there’s always that moment of shoving and pushing; it’s always been that way and it always will be.
In the animal kingdom, it’s no diferente — in fact, it’s the rule.
Especially when fights involve animals separated by oceans and shores that theoretically should never even meet, but nobody can resist when humans throw food away.
I saw a video of a street gang fight between Chilean stray dogs chasing off fat, resigned sea lions, and after laughing out loud, the melancholy inevitably hit me.
And there’s no song more melancholic than “Flutterby” by Vida Killz, but since the lyrics talk about something else, I used the instrumental version to score this battle of four-legged warriors-can you-dig-it-in-the-ditch against the maneless sea kings — and I called it Turf War.
