Your girlfriend who wasn’t hungry but now steals your fries, your friend who just came by to say hi and already shows up opening your fridge, the coworker who drinks from other people’s glasses at happy hour and leaves before settling the bill, two countries separated by an ocean fighting over some rare mineral buried in the lands of a third country separated by yet another ocean.
Life on Earth is a perpetual turf war.
Even when everyone stays in their own lane, there comes a moment of move over.
It has always been like this and it always will be.
In the animal kingdom, it’s no different.
In fact, it’s the rule, especially when conflicts involve animals separated by oceans and beaches that, in theory, shouldn’t even coexist.
But no one can resist when humans throw food away.
I saw a video of a fight where a gang of Chilean stray dogs was driving out fat, resigned sea lions.
After laughing, the melancholy was inevitable.
And there’s no music more melancholic than Flutterby by Vida Killz.
Since the lyrics are about something else, I decided to use the instrumental version to score the battle of the warriors-can-you-dig-it-in-the-ditch four-legged fighters against the maneless lion kings, and I called it Turf War.
